This web cam view looks down Bassenthwaite Lake, in the UK’s Lake District.
The Lake is owned by the National Park Authority, is one of the largest in the Lake District at 4 miles long and 3/4 mile wide, but also one of the shallowest (70 ft). It is the most northerly of the lakes, and has no major settlements on its shores. Its is often full of sailing boats from Bassenthwaite Sailing Club.
Armathwaite Hall Hotel, where this webcam is located, is magnificently set in the secluded splendour of 400 acres of deer park and woodland, bordered by the beauty of Bassenthwaite Lake and framed by the dramatic Skiddaw mountain and lake district fells Armathwaite Hall Hotel is as romantic as the surrounding countryside.
One of the original stately homes of England, this Luxury 4 star Lake District Country House Hotel, privately owned by the resident Graves family, reflects a quality of life and old world hospitality of which the famous novelist Sir Hugh Walpole wrote "A house of perfect and irresistible charm".

Just watched webcam for 15min while the sun rose, gradually lighting up the frozen lake from one end to the other, casting glinting rays over the field in the foreground, absolutely stunning.

I'm with Bill on this - I just looked at the site John recommended and it's non-commercial and has some of the best pictures of the Lake District I've come across. It seems to me recommending other useful links is part of what the internet and commenting is all about

Thank you John for putting me onto another Lakes site. I don't know why anyone should object. Thanks to all who provide website and pics of the Lakes area.
