In a dictionary edited by K. ter Laan behind the name Vierhouten it says: settlement to the South of Nunspeet, renowned for tavern "De Mallejan". This former tavern in 1862 became Hotel De Mallejan. Forest workers frequently visited the tavern with their "mallejans". A mallejan was a waggon pulled by horses, used for the transportation of heavy treetrunks.Prince Hendrik and his fellow hunters frequently visited the tavern and later Queen Juliana too, which augmented its reputation and as a result it became a much-favoured vacation resort. Nowadays Hotel De Mallejan is a four star location that immediately makes a friendly impression. The Hotel is decorated in the style of an English mansion and equipped with a magnificent conservatory. Various arrangements can be made and booked.
