The Region "Marche" is linked to Umbria and Emilia Romagna. The narrow 180-km coastal plain is interrupted to the north of Pesaro by the San Bartolo hill. Venturing along the panoramic street of San Bartolo you will encounter an extraordinary panorama: on the one hand the softly rising curves of the hills, and on the other the Adriatic sea. From strategic natural balconies you can observe how the magnificent high coast drops steeply down to the sea. The inland area offers other attractions and enchanments. Pesaro is the birthplace of Gioachino Rossini. It boasts a number of Medieval and Renaissance monuments. Renowned for its majolica ware, thanks to the fine clay found in the surrounding area. Home of the Ceramic museum and the rich collection housed in the City Art Gallery. Along the via Flaminia which was essential to connect Rome with northern europe we find Fano where you can visit the Arch of Augustus and a long stretch of Roman wall. Moving towards Rome, the Via Flamina leads us to the incredible Gola del Furlo passage, an extraordinary canyon. The most beautiful fortresses can be visit: Mondavio, Sassocorvaro, San Leo ecc. San Leo serves nowadays as museum and art gallery, known for one of its misterious prisoner, Giuseppe Balsamo also the Count of Cagliostro. Urbino is famous throughout the world for the inestimable masterpieces housed in the National Gallery within the Ducal Palace. Urbino, birthplace of Raffaello, was at the peak of its glory in the 15th century as Duke Federico gathered the greatest artist and writers to his court. An other magnificent fortress is Gradara where the tragic love story of Paolo and Francesca, written by Dante, is supposed to have taken place. To visit in the nearby aereas are the Frasassi caves, the waterpark "Aquafan" in Riccione, the underwater world at Cattolica !Le Navi Park", 270 scale reproductions of architectural wonders fo the architectural heritage of Italy "Italia in Miniatura" in Rimini. For cycle and trekking tourism: NEW itineraries. |
