Area Information
Hotel Piave is in a very peaceful area in the centre of Mestre, 150 metres from the train station and near the Mestre Centro motorway exit. Venice is easily reached by bus (every 10 min.) and train (every 2-3 min.).
 
Comments
1st dayFrom the railway station with public boat n. 1 along the Canal Grande, where there are the most magnificent palaces of Venice, to Piazza San Marco. Visit of the Basilica, the symbol of the city.Visit of the Doges Palace, masterpiece of the Venetian gothic with his Piombi, the old prison of the Serenissima and Bridge of Sighs. Possibility to visit the bell-tower; from his top you can see the beautiful view over the square and the clock tower with the famous 2 Moors. We suggest a visit of the archaeological museum and the Museum Correr. From Piazza San Marco the public boat n. 1 leave to the Lido of Venice, summer seat of the Municipal Casino and the Palace of the Cinema. Return to Piazza San Marco with public boat n. 1. Walking down Calle Larga XXII Marzo have a look of the Church of St. Moisè, beautiful example of the Venetian baroque. Promenade along the Frezzaria and Merceria, well-known shopping streets. Visit of the Church of St. Salvador with works of art by Bellini, Tiziano and Sansovino. Arrival at the Rialto Bridge and continue along the Strada Nuova, important shopping street.2nd dayFrom the railway station over the Bridge Scalzi to the Frari Church with the sepulchre monuments of Tiziano and Canova and works art by Donatello and Tiziano. Near the Church, the School of St. Rocco with works of art by Tintoretto and Tiziano. A walk down the typical “calli” to the Gallerie of Accademia with the most important collections of Venetian paintings from the origins to the XVII century. On foot to Punta della Dogana and visit the Chiesa della Salute, baroque masterpiece by Longhena. Transfer to Piazza San Marco by public boat n. 1 and take n. 82 to the Island St Giorgio with its church, classic palladian construction n. 82 to the Island Giudecca, ancient jewish quarter with the Church of Redentore built on a plan by Palladio, or to the Zattere, charming foundation where there is the Curch of Gesuati with works of art by Tiepolo. From there, boat n. 52 trough the harbour of Venice to the railway station.3rd dayFrom the railway station, public boat n. 42 to Murano, the well known island for his blowing glass. Visit of a glass factory. Walk trough the island and visit the Basilica of St. Maria and Donato, Venetian-Byzantine construction. From Murano, boat n. 12 to Burano, Island of the colourful houses, well known for the art of lace. Possibility to have lunch in one of the good restaurants of the Island.Boat n. 12 to to Torcello, the first Venetians settled down on this Island. Visit of the Basilica of St. Maria Assunta, an VII century construction, with mosaic of the Judgement.Return to Venice by boat n. 12. From the Fondamenta Nuove to the railway station, along the Strada Nuova and stop in the Jewish quarter. Visit the museum and the jewish school.
