By Car: From the North (Milan/Venice/Bologna etc.) or from the South (Rome/Naples etc.)The best way to reach the Althea from either the North or South is on the toll motorway called the AUTOSTRADA or A 1.From the Autostrada, take the EXIT FIRENZE CERTOSA which is the 2nd exit arriving from ROME ( south ) or the 3rd exit arriving from Bologna ( north ). Follow the directions for CENTRO (city center) which will lead you to PORTA ROMANA, one of the huge stone gates of the 15th century walls of Florence. Pass through the Porta Romana onto the VIA ROMANA. Take the 3rd street on the left, VIA SANTA MARIA, and then the 1st street on the right, VIA DELLE CALDAIE. The Althea is on the Via Delle Caldaie at #25, near the end and almost at the next corner with via del CAMPUCCIO.From west: Genova/ Cinque terre / Versilia / Lucca : once you reach Firenze don’t take the 1st exit Firenze Nord , but keep driving direction Rome ( south ) take the exit FIRENZE CERTOSA, than follow the above directions.SUMMARY: EXIT CERTOSA, FOLLOW THE DIRECTION CENTRO, REACH PORTA ROMANA, TAKE VIA ROMANA,TAKE THE 3RD LEFT AND THE 1ST RIGHT ONTO #25 VIA DELLE CALDAIE.By Train: Most trains arrive at Florence’s main train station, FIRENZE SANTA MARIA NOVELLA ( Firenze SMN), except for trains arriving to Florence between 11:00 PM ~ 12:00 PM and 07:00– these trains stop at FIRENZE CAMPO MARTE (easier to get a cab from this station , after midnight the buses are running only once per hourThe Santa Maria Novella station is about 1,3 miles from the Althea.By Taxi from Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station: Exit the train station to the left, close to the pharmacy (Farmacia), and take a right to the cab stand. The approximate cost to the Althea is 10 Euro (price may flucuate regarding day/night/weekend/holiday fare differences and luggage fees). 1 ) By Bus (ATAF) from Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station: WEEKDAYS ONLY: Bus D runs from 07: 00 AM to 08:00 PM a schedule should be posted there, basicly the frequency is 15- 20 minutes– service stops at 8 PM and is not available on Sundays/holidays. Directly in front of the cab stand mentioned above is the BUS D terminal (if the bus is not parked here, the stop is located nearby in front of a blue container for glass recycling opposite to the cab stand. The stop for the Althea is named Santo Spirito (the one after the Piazza Pitti stop), and the route of Bus D is quite panoramic so enjoy it! From the Santo Spirito bus stop, walk in the same direction as the bus until you arrive in Square Santo Spirito. Opposite to the facade of the church and on your left, as soon you get in to Piazza santo Spirito, is Via delle Caldaie, Althea is there at numb. 25 on the left sidewalk .SUNDAY AND HOLIDAYS: Take the left exit from the train station, close to the pharmacy (Farmacia), and you will see a long bus platform. Buses with routes that come close to the Althea are #36 and #37 so you can take either one.Tickets are sold inside the train station at the news stands or at the TABACCHI shop in front the the train platforms. Please remember to stamp your ticket on the bus in the machine provided. The bus might stop in via Fiume as Terminal, wait on board.Bus drivers are generally courteous but few speak English which may be a challenge when asking for the 2nd stop off of via dei Serragli. The Althea bus stop is the 3rd after the ”alla Carraia” bridge (it’s the only bridge you are going to cross). The bus could bypass some of the stops if noone needs to exit, so once you are on the bridge, ring the bell for a stop request, and ring for the next two stops so that you will be sure that the bus will stop at the 2nd stop of Via dei Serragli ( the 3rd considering that one after the bridge). As you exit, walk in the same direction as the bus for a few meters until you find the intersection with Via del Campuccio. Take a left onto Via del Campuccio, walk to the next intersection and turn right. You have arrived - congratulations! You are now on Via delle Caldaie, and the Althea is #25 at the corner with via del Campuccio on the left sidewalk..By Bus from LUCCA/PISA (LAZZI bus service): These buses arrive at the Piazza Adua which is a square facing the Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station. In front of you and just across the street is the ATAF Bus platform so follow the same tips to get to the Althea by local bus as described above or by walking.Point 2 )By Bus from SIENA (SITA bus service): Out from the building go left, cross the train station square and reach the D terminal in front the cab stand, than are the same tips above. (see point 1 )By Air: Florence’s Amerigo Vespucci (PERETOLA) airport is 7 km from the center of Florence, and a cab costs approximately 20 Euro to reach the Althea.Bus #62 goes to the Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station from the airport. A shuttle service is also provided by ATAF BUS (orange buses) or SITA BUS (light blue buses) that will take you to the SITA bus terminal on via Santa Caterina da Siena close to the train Station. (see above tips to get from there to the Althea , point 1 and 2).By Air from PISAThe Pisa Airport is connected to Florence by trains that depart from a platform in front of the airport’s exit.Than at your arrival at the Florence’s train station take a bus or a taxi .( Point 1 )Walking from the Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station:Exit the station on the left near the pharmacy (Farmacia), Take a right and follow the underpass that will take you to the Square Santa Maria Novella or cross the street and keep going straight to reach the same square. At the Square Santa Maria Novella there is a large church of the same name. Across the square and opposite the church is a building with a porch with huge arche – to the left of the porch is a small square called OTTAVIANI and Via dei Fossi runs along the left side of the arched building. Walk down Via dei Fossi and cross the bridge that you will find in front of you, the PONTE ALLA CARRAIA. After crossing this bridge, keep going straight past the PIAZZA NAZARIO SAURO and continue walking down Via Dei Serragli. On your left you will soon see Via del CAMPUCCIO – take this left and then a right at the first intersection with Via delle CALDAIE. The Althea is located at #25. The web sites of ATAF , Lazzi, Sita and the Railroad Company Trenitalia are listed in the section SUGGESTION, you can counsult their schedule on line. |
