The Hamlet of Canalicchio sits on a hilltop, 420 meters above sea level. Originally it was built around the year 1,000. Most of what you see now was restored in the 1700s, including the parochial Church of Saints Philip and James. In the 1980s a family from Rome bought up most what was at the time a village reduced to ruins. After many years of hard work, using the craftsmen and artisans of the area, the rundown hamlet was reborn in 1995, and the Relais Il Canalicchio was restored to its former splendour. The Relais is built with the typical Umbrian stonework where you can relive the rural memory of the place. Close to the reception, there is the bar and lounge area where you can meet friends for a drink, invite them to a long and thrilling game of pool in our billiard room or just enjoy a fine cigar in our Winston Churchill smoking room. You can relax in comfort, sitting back in one of the sofas next to the enormous fireplace in our leisure room, reading one of the books from our library or just enjoy watching other people do sports in a large screen TV room. The Castle offers a well equipped Fitness Centre, or go next door and have a relaxing massage treatment, use dry air sauna or have a swim in one of our two panoramic swimming pools. Two tennis courts are also at complete disposal of the guests. In perfect harmony with everything around, in front of a wide panoramic window, you can savour finest dishes of the traditional Umbrian Cuisine, in our Restaurant Il Pavone. The Relais has 49 rooms of which 14 are Country suites. Each room has its own unique identity in the classic Art Nouveau style with a special eye for details such as coordinated drapes, table lamps and upholstery. Country suites are on a hilltop a few steps away from the Relais, joined by a beautiful small bridge and are elegantly designed with a private entrance. The exclusive Congress Hall can seat up to 100 people, with 3 small meeting rooms with a capacity up to 35 people.
