Sydney dust storm – View live webcam coverage of the dust storm from our Sydney Harbour web cam

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

A cloud of Red Dust blown in from the Australian Desert Outback clogged the skies over Australia’s largest city,  Sydney on Wednesday 23rd September 2009, diverting international flights, disrupting public transport in and around the city of Sydney, and prompting a spike in emergency calls from local Sydney people all around Sydney suffering breathing difficulties.

No one was reported hurt as a result of red dust storms sweeping a vast swath of eastern Australia, but officials closed ferry services on Sydney Harbour because visibility was cut to dangerous levels, and police in two states warned motorists to take extra care on the roads.  Even the Sydney Opera House, has been obscured by the red dust storm causing havoc to the the city of Sydney and surrounding areas.

Such thick red dust is a rarity over Australia’s largest city, Sydney, and came along with whip lashing winds and other uncommon weather conditions across the country in recent days.

Follow the progress of the red dust storm in Sydney and other surrounding areas by viewing our LIVE Sydney webcamHERE.
